Frequently Asked Questions
Please make sure that you and any other people at home are safe or can move to a safe place. Then, take steps to minimise any damage, and contact our Home Assistance Department (900 556 000 – 24/7) to report the claim. Please have your policy number handy and prepare to provide details of the claim; what, when and how did it happen? Please be aware that claims should be reported no later than 7 days after the claim event happens.
The excess is the amount that you need to pay to cover the repair of the damages caused, according to the insurance policy. Generali will cover the remaining costs. Having an excess on your policy reduces your annual insurance premium.
This will always depend on the size of the property, how the property is used, the number of people living there, etc. Please make sure that you also consider at least the following: kitchen furniture and appliances, furniture and soft furnishings in every room, as well as clothes and personal belongings. Do not forget that jewellery and valuable objects are considered part of the contents cover, but you will need to consider the value of each item. If you have valuables, talk to your agent or broker to ensure you have appropriate cover.
"Reconstruction costs" refer to the cost of rebuilding the property from scratch, as if the property was considered a total ruin after a claim. This differs from the property purchase cost, which is usually much higher, even though you won’t have to factor in costs such as the building plot, foundations, etc. Also, if your property is within an urbanisation, you do not have to consider communal areas, such as building corridors, staircases, etc, as they are usually covered by the Homeowner's Association's insurance policy. Please always consult a professional insurance advisor to discuss the most suitable cover for your property.
Yes, as long as the policy includes Contents cover. The policy includes standard Public Liability cover that can be increased up to €1M.
No, but it is certainly highly recommended. Nowadays, very few properties don't have home insurance. However, every customer’s needs are different. This is why Generali has created additional optional coverage to allow customers to tailor their home policy, from the most basic cover to a wide range of additional cover and services to make sure that you only pay for what you really need.
Yes, as long as the policy includes Contents cover and the dog's registered owner is also insured on the policy, that is, that the dog's owner legally resides in the insured property. Please, bear in mind that this Public Liability cover is included as standard. However, if your dog's breed is considered “potentially dangerous”, you have to take out additional Public Liability cover within your home policy. In any case, your dog's details must be included in the policy documents. It is best to always review this with a professional insurance advisor.
